Brief Tour of the Outfield Today ~
I have gone ahead to link this page via the above pad with a clear definition of phonology, and you can look farther onto this website for other definitions of concepts and nuances of words. Note the appropriate parts of speech are arrayed for syntax with the definitions, per proper morphology. Me, I am a fan of words, their meanings, and their etymologies. The web bubbles with places you can find translation tools and definitions of what we do, and these descriptions are put together by professionals in the field. Yourdictionary.com and babelfish.com are only two simple examples. ELLs will find their own bevy of sites such as colorincolorado.org, which is not for profit. Many have discussion boards where topics such as bilingual education are at the fore! Lesson plans abound, ones of value for both EFL overseas and ESL at home. EFL generally refers to the overseas component of our team. You can employ any large search engine to get to these sights. They are perhaps the outfield of this website, but they are less outlandish than they once were, and maybe we will be able to convince lawmakers of the importance of ESL Education, nationwide. We want nothing short of tolerance of ELL's, celebration of differences, and integration with self-determination. We do not want to lower the standard of learning for ELL's, but we want understanding of their travails and their needs, as any other special group would need, such as the deaf, the blind, or those with other challenges. Discrimination is not an option. For more information, visit any university website. Accredited high schools also have ELL/ESL programs, both private and public. Of course we all have a common ground, but we want equality for our ELL's, not only de jure but also de facto. The internet is a place where these ideas can be explored. If you feel strongly about something, plan a visit to your local lawmaker in person. They will listen, and because of the nature of their position, the fact that you vote for them, they will esteem you in all cases and may get to know you by name, in the case that you are local. And remember, English is just the means to the end; never confuse it with the end in itself, which is to help the students in their identity, facilitate their incorporation into society, learn their names, and get them speaking in tongues! Nose to the grindstone or teachable "aha" moment, all involved will benefit. Lawmakers worry about money, but we, the lilies of the field, do not. Remember, in all this, learning happens beyond the classroom as well. this is proverbial among teachers who are humble! So, in a way, the outfield never stops. It continues forever, all the livelong day! We are the gurus of English, and we work together, priming the kids for the world, the real world, passing them on beyond our realms of pedagogy and androgogy, where they garner their knowledge, both intellectual and know-how. The sun shines on the Statue of Liberty.
Sauerkraut with that dog?
We must cut the mustard as teachers, and we must help our students "catch up" with the rest.
Here is the IPA I talked about earlier, defined by the same people who defined phonology above. I am making phonology my guinea pig, but you can do what you want with your classroom, and add decor how you wish! My background centers of phonology, within linguistics, and then a few languages. Here is the weblink.

Here is keyboard help, in IPA, for many languages! Ripley's believe it or not! Believe it, Ripley! There is IPA Full, IPA English, IPA Spanish, and countless other languages. Look what I found, Mah! A stray baseball out in the gutter by the ticket booths! How much do you think the counter at the card store will give for this one! Here, check it out.

This is just a sampling. It is an invitation to be part of the EFL/ESL/ESOL crew of teachers. I attended a church for a goodly number of years. At evening vespers each Saturday, the phrase "come taste and see, it is good." It could be God, it could be life, it could be your house, your love, or the language that aids you in communication every day. Who does not need communication? Not to obtain it is abuse. So, I liked this line from the church service, with its many notes, in fact. Very baroque. And which of the above does it refer to. My uncle in Texas used to say about such conundra, "all of the above." Smile the smile of the Buddha. Wake up and smell the coffee or have a spot of tea. Open the door to a new day. Have some good American Pie? I say!
